$CMG Took the Lows, Then Took Them Back. What Comes Next Points to $33.40

Price visited the stops, collected them and came back. My read on what that sequence implies for $CMG.

$CMG Took the Lows, Then Took Them Back. What Comes Next Points to $33.40

Listen: hear this article read aloud (about 2 min).

Price in $CMG went where the stops were, then left. That isn't noise.

$CMG sits at $28.38, $5.22 below its 20-day high of $33.60 and $0.25 above its 20-day low of $28.13.

My read: neutral, waiting on confirmation. I want confirmation before I call a direction.

What the sweep left behind

Against its own 60-session range, $CMG is 27.4% below the high of $39.09 (Jul 30) and 0.9% above the low of $28.13 (Oct 21). $CMG closed higher in 2 of its last 9 sessions.

Volume over the last five sessions averaged 0.9x the twenty sessions before them. The largest one-day move in the past twenty sessions was +6.2% on Oct 8.

Change of character down through $29.83 on the daily chart.

Liquidity sweep: price ran the lows at $29.75 and closed back inside the range.

What I make of it: stops sit at obvious levels, and a sweep shows they were collected. What price does next shows whether the move was a trap or a start.

What the market looks to be pricing in

Off-exchange trading: HEAVY: $5.7M block at $28.25, 6.2x yesterday's biggest. Biggest single off-exchange print: 200,000 shares at $28.25, about $5.7M, on an uptick (buyer lifted). A print that size is one order being crossed away from the public book, not a crowd of small trades. Squeeze risk 0 of 100; shorts pressing 100 of 100.

Across the broader market, the read is Neutral (bias +1).

Insiders: quiet. On the daily chart, technical patterns include Double Top, Inverted Cup and Handle, bearish_marubozu in a down trend. Price is below its 20-day average of $31.00 by 8.5%.

What I make of it: the data agrees with itself more than it argues, and that counts for something. It still falls short of proof.

The bull case

  • Structure setup with a measured path to $33.40

The bear case

  • Backdrop: Neutral (bias +1)
  • Failed sweeps are not remembered

The part nobody is talking about

What I think traders are overlooking is the volume. Price can drift to a level on almost nothing, and what it does there needs real participation. Without it, a break is easy to fade.

The price alone doesn't show it.

If I'm right, and what proves me wrong

If $CMG posts a retest of the supply block $29.41 to $29.90 that holds and volume expands, I think $33.40 becomes the next serious test. Under $29.45, I'm wrong.

The honest objection is selection bias. Sweeps that worked get remembered and the ones that failed don't, so any chart can be annotated into a story afterward.

That's the whole trade: a level to clear, a line that proves me wrong, and not much in between.

Kill switch

Any one of these and the thesis is over, no averaging down, no renaming it.

  • A close through $29.45.
  • Selling absorbs the buying at a key level and price loses it on volume.
  • Order flow reverses: the sweeps and blocks turn to the other side.
  • A scheduled event changes the picture before the trigger is reached.

What I'm watching

I'm neutral until the stock gives me a reason. The level is clear and so is the line that proves me wrong, so there's nothing to do until one of them gets tested.

Desk record. 4 of 11 scenario targets traded before their invalidation (36%), 7 stopped out, 0 ran out of time, average outcome +10.89% per piece. Past pieces say nothing about this one.

The desk's scenario leans bullish. Bull or bear, the kill switch above is what keeps either view honest.
