$GM Just Swept the Stops. Is $98.74 the Next Stop?
Price visited the stops, collected them and came back. My read on what that sequence implies for General Motors.

Listen: hear this article read aloud (about 2 min).
Price in General Motors went where the stops were, then left. That isn't noise.
$GM sits at $89.76, $0.28 below its 20-day high of $90.04 and $15.17 above its 20-day low of $74.59.
My read: bullish. Buyers are in control and the evidence backs it, though I still want the level to clear on volume.
A sweep and a reversal
Against its own 60-session range, $GM is 0.3% below the high of $90.04 (Nov 2) and 20.3% above the low of $74.59 (Oct 23).
$GM closed higher in 7 of its last 9 sessions. Volume over the last five sessions averaged 1.3x the twenty sessions before them. The largest one-day move in the past twenty sessions was -6.8% on Oct 20.
Change of character up through $85.79 on the daily chart.
Liquidity sweep: price ran the highs at $87.86 and closed back inside the range.
What I make of it: stops sit at obvious levels, and a sweep shows they were collected. What price does next shows whether the move was a trap or a start.
Who is positioned for what
Off-exchange trading: QUIET: no block prints, 15% off-exchange. No block-size prints (10,000+ shares or $1M+) in this window. Off-exchange volume is spread across small prints, which is what internalized retail flow looks like. Squeeze risk 0 of 100; shorts pressing 29 of 100. Across the broader market, the read is Neutral (bias +6).
Insiders: quiet.
On the daily chart, technical patterns include spinning_top, inside_bar, outside_bar in a flat trend. Price is above its 20-day average of $81.82 by 9.7%.
What I make of it: the data agrees with itself more than it argues, and that counts for something. It still falls short of proof.
The bull case
- Structure setup with a measured path to $98.74
The bear case
- Backdrop: Neutral (bias +6)
- Failed sweeps are not remembered
What I think traders are overlooking
What I think traders are overlooking is how little room the thesis needs. The line that proves it wrong is close and the level it points to is not, which is the kind of imbalance I like to see.
None of that is visible in the candles.
What happens next, and when I'm out
If $GM posts a retest of the demand block $74.59 to $76.18 that holds and volume expands, I think $98.74 becomes the next serious test. Under $86.98, I'm wrong.
The honest objection is selection bias. Sweeps that worked get remembered and the ones that failed don't, so any chart can be annotated into a story afterward.
Clear the level on volume and I'm interested. Fail below the line and I'm out of the idea.
Kill switch
Any one of these and the thesis is over, no averaging down, no renaming it.
- A close through $86.98.
- Selling absorbs the buying at a key level and price loses it on volume.
- Order flow reverses: the sweeps and blocks turn to the other side.
- A scheduled event changes the picture before the trigger is reached.
My read
I'm leaning on the side of the buyers here. The evidence supports it, and the line that proves me wrong is close enough to respect.
Desk record. 22 of 124 scenario targets traded before their invalidation (18%), 68 stopped out, 34 ran out of time, average outcome +1.19% per piece. Past pieces say nothing about this one.
The desk's scenario leans bullish. Bull or bear, the kill switch above is what keeps either view honest.
