Somebody Is Still Shorting $DKI. The Data Says They May Regret It
Short volume is a clue, not a confession. My read on what it does and doesn't say about $DKI.

Listen: hear this article read aloud (about 2 min).
Somebody is still shorting $DKI into this, and the FINRA data doesn't care about anyone's opinion. It counts.
$DKI sits at $2.05, $179.95 below its 20-day high of $182.00 and $0.40 above its 20-day low of $1.65.
My read: lean bullish. Buyers are close enough to force the issue, but I want volume before I call it a breakout.
The shorts have a problem
Against its own 60-session range, $DKI is 99.2% below the high of $266.00 (Aug 10) and 24.2% above the low of $1.65 (Oct 27).
$DKI closed higher in 1 of its last 9 sessions. Volume over the last five sessions averaged 1.4x the twenty sessions before them.
The largest one-day move in the past twenty sessions was -58.1% on Oct 12. 62% of DKI's off-exchange volume printed as short sales (FINRA daily short volume), against a normal 60%.
The stock is already running: shorts are losing, not waiting.
What I make of it: a crowded short matters only if the stock stops falling, and then covering becomes buying. Whether that starts here is the whole question.
Who is positioned for what
Off-exchange trading: NORMAL: $11K block at $2.15. Biggest single off-exchange print: 5,300 shares at $2.15, about $11K, on an uptick (buyer lifted). A print that size is one order being crossed away from the public book, not a crowd of small trades. Days to cover 1.0, 1.7M shares short, short interest +9444.9% since the last report.
Squeeze risk 5 of 100; shorts pressing 93 of 100. Across the broader market, the read is Neutral (bias -4).
Sentiment readings show bullish (55 of 100), crowded long.
Insiders: quiet.
What I make of it: the pieces mostly point the same way as the price, which is more than I can say for most setups. None of them is proof.
The bull case
- Short squeeze setup with a measured path to $182.00
The bear case
- Backdrop: Neutral (bias -4)
- Crowded positioning raises the bar
- Borrow cost decides who exits first
What I think traders are overlooking
What I think traders are overlooking is how little room the thesis needs. The line that proves it wrong is close and the level it points to is not, which is the kind of imbalance I like to see.
None of that is visible in the candles.
What happens next, and when I'm out
If $DKI posts a close above the recent high on rising volume and volume expands, I think $182.00 becomes the next serious test. Under $1.85, I'm wrong.
The honest objection is that short volume is not a short position. A high ratio is routine in liquid names, and sometimes the shorts are simply right.
Clear the level on volume and I'm interested. Fail below the line and I'm out of the idea.
Kill switch
Any one of these and the thesis is over, no averaging down, no renaming it.
- A close through $1.85.
- Selling absorbs the buying at a key level and price loses it on volume.
- Order flow reverses: the sweeps and blocks turn to the other side.
- A scheduled event changes the picture before the trigger is reached.
My read
Buyers are close enough to force the issue. I want the volume before I call it anything more than a lean.
Desk record. 12 of 57 scenario targets traded before their invalidation (21%), 31 stopped out, 14 ran out of time, average outcome +2.34% per piece. Past pieces say nothing about this one.
The desk's scenario leans bullish. Bull or bear, the kill switch above is what keeps either view honest.
