$SPCX Just Swept the Stops. Is $143.88 the Next Stop?

Price visited the stops, collected them and came back. My read on what that sequence implies for Space Exploration Technologies Corp. Class A Common Stock.

$SPCX Just Swept the Stops. Is $143.88 the Next Stop?

Listen: hear this article read aloud (about 2 min).

Space Exploration Technologies Corp. Class A Common Stock just ran the obvious level, took the stops and reversed.

$SPCX sits at $130.80, $40.51 below its 20-day high of $171.31 and $3.70 above its 20-day low of $134.50.

My read: neutral, waiting on confirmation. I want confirmation before I call a direction.

The stops that got taken

Against its own 60-session range, $SPCX is 25.9% below the high of $176.42 (Oct 6) and 0.3% above the low of $130.39 (Aug 20). $SPCX closed higher in 4 of its last 9 sessions.

Volume over the last five sessions averaged 0.9x the twenty sessions before them. The largest one-day move in the past twenty sessions was -9.1% on Oct 22.

Change of character down through $143.21 on the daily chart.

Liquidity sweep: price ran the lows at $142.87 and closed back inside the range.

What I make of it: stops sit at obvious levels, and a sweep shows they were collected. What price does next shows whether the move was a trap or a start.

What is already in the price

Order-flow analysis classifies the activity as accumulation, buyers in control, strength 76 of 100. Smart money is accumulating: absorbing sells, refilling bids, working buy orders without lifting price. Expect a markup once supply is exhausted. Off-exchange trading: NORMAL: $4.7M block at $133.00, under half yesterday's biggest. Biggest single off-exchange print: 35,436 shares at $133.00, about $4.7M, on a downtick (seller hit). A print that size is one order being crossed away from the public book, not a crowd of small trades.

Days to cover 1.9, 167.3M shares short, short interest -7.6% since the last report.

Squeeze risk 16 of 100; shorts pressing 58 of 100. Across the broader market, the read is Neutral (bias +3). Insiders: quiet.

What I make of it: the pieces mostly point the same way as the price, which is more than I can say for most setups. None of them is proof.

The bull case

  • Structure setup with a measured path to $143.88
  • Order-flow read: accumulation, buyers in control, strength 76 of 100

The bear case

  • Backdrop: Neutral (bias +3)
  • Charts can be annotated after the fact

The detail that changes the read

What I think traders are overlooking is the volume. Price can drift to a level on almost nothing, and what it does there needs real participation. Without it, a break is easy to fade.

That part doesn't show up on the chart.

The call, and the line that breaks it

If $SPCX posts a retest of the supply block $146.61 to $151.36 that holds and volume expands, I think $143.88 becomes the next serious test. Under $141.44, I'm wrong.

The honest objection is selection bias. Sweeps that worked get remembered and the ones that failed don't, so any chart can be annotated into a story afterward.

So the plan is simple. Wait for the level, wait for the volume, and respect the line.

Kill switch

Any one of these and the thesis is over, no averaging down, no renaming it.

  • A close through $141.44.
  • Selling absorbs the buying at a key level and price loses it on volume.
  • Order flow reverses: the sweeps and blocks turn to the other side.
  • A scheduled event changes the picture before the trigger is reached.

Where I land

No edge yet, and I'd rather say so than invent one. The confirmation is the trade.

Desk record. 24 of 130 scenario targets traded before their invalidation (18%), 68 stopped out, 38 ran out of time, average outcome +1.45% per piece. Past pieces say nothing about this one.

The desk's scenario leans bullish. Bull or bear, the kill switch above is what keeps either view honest.
